Iranian Cultural Consulate in Sierra Leone Resumes Activities After 7 Years

Freetown – The Cultural Consulate of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Sierra Leone has officially resumed its activities after approximately seven years of closure, with **Dr. Abedin Siyahat Esfandiari** appointed as the new Cultural Counsellor. 

Dr. Abedin Siyahat Esfandiari, who holds a PhD in Law and is a researcher in the fields of peace and human rights, has recently assumed the position of Cultural Counsellor. With his academic background and research experience in international law, dialogue among civilizations, and human rights, he is expected to play a significant role in strengthening cultural convergence, fostering mutual understanding, and expanding friendly relations between the peoples of Iran and Sierra Leone. 

The Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Sierra Leone enjoy extensive potential for bilateral cooperation. The shared values, cultural and historical commonalities between the two countries, combined with the existing political will, provide a strong foundation for activating these capacities and advancing them through cultural diplomacy toward a higher level of friendly and sustainable cooperation. 

 Key Areas of Activity in the New Phase  

According to Dr. Abedin Siyahat Esfandiari, the new Cultural Counsellor” Dr. Siyahat Esfandiari stated that the Cultural Consulate will focus on the following areas: Academic and cientific Cooperation: Expanding university partnerships, facilitating the exchange of professors and students, organizing joint conferences, webinars, and collaborative research projects. Interfaith Dialogue: Promoting constructive dialogue among different religions and faiths, with emphasis on peaceful coexistence, unity, and countering extremism. Empowerment and Capacity Building: Implementing training programs and specialized workshops for youth, women, and local communities. Family and Social Values: Strengthening the institution of the family, organizing family counseling workshops, and promoting ethical and cultural values in the upbringing of the new generation. Promotion of Culture and Arts: Organizing exhibitions, cultural festivals, Iranian cultural weeks, and introducing Iran’s rich cultural and artistic heritage to the people of Sierra Leone.

– Introducing Sierra Leone’s Cultural Capacities to Iranian Society: Planning initiatives to present the rich culture, arts, traditions, and cultural heritage of Sierra Leone to the Iranian people and cultural institutions through events, exhibitions, and two-way cultural exchanges.

– Media and Humanitarian Cooperation: Developing relations with the media, civil society organizations, and implementing joint social and humanitarian projects.  The Cultural Consulate of the Iranian Embassy in Freetown is ready to cooperate closely with all governmental, academic, religious, cultural, and civil institutions in Sierra Leone.
