Five Local Councils Make Significant Gains On Gender Responsive Budgeting

A report by the Budget Advocacy Network (BAN) indicates that five districts including Moyamba, Port Loko, Kambia, Karene and Tonkolili Districts respectively have made significant gains in Gender Budgeting.

With support from the Irish Embassy through the project implemented by Budget Advocacy Network, Talking Drums Studios and The Fifty/Fifty Group, the five councils mentioned above have made significant progress in terms of ensuring their budget allocation caters for the needs and aspiration of men, women, boys, girls and other groups of vulnerable people at the local level.

The Project title- Empowering women, youth and marginalised groups for inclusive governance and peace in Sierra Leone in implemented in all five districts.

This is the performance since 2018 when BAN started working with these councils. Moyamba and Karene joined the project in 2022.

In Kambia the Ministry of health is leading on gender responsive budgeting

Followed by the Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs.

For Port Loko it is the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education that is leading followed by the Ministry of Gender.

In Tonkolili district, the Ministry of Gender is leading followed by the MBSSE

In Moyamba it is the MBSSE that is leading followed by the Ministry of Gender.

In Karene it is the MAFS that is leading followed by Ministry of Gender.
