Ambassador to Iran Joins World Leaders in Honouring Imam Khomeini’s Legacy

His Excellency Salamu Koroma, Ambassador of the Republic of Sierra Leone to the Islamic Republic of Iran, joined fellow diplomats, dignitaries, and religious leaders at the shrine of Imam Ruhollah Khomeini in Tehran to commemorate the 36th anniversary of the late Imam’s passing—an event that has come to symbolise a national moment of reflection for Iran.

The solemn gathering marked the “heavenly departure” of the revered Imam Khomeini, founder of the 1979 Islamic Revolution and architect of modern Iran’s ideological and political transformation. The commemorative ceremony drew participants from across the world, underscoring the continued global interest in the ideological, political, and spiritual foundations laid by the late Iranian leader.

During the ceremony, Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, delivered a powerful address reflecting on the enduring impact of Imam Khomeini’s teachings. Describing the Imam as “the great architect of Iran’s independence and a herald of dignity and human honour for Iranians,” Ayatollah Khamenei emphasised that Khomeini’s vision was deeply rooted in the awakening of hearts, revolutionary consciousness, and the balance between resistance and rational engagement.

“He showed us both perseverance in resistance and rationality in engagement,” the Supreme Leader noted. “Imam’s path remains well-trodden, and his memory will live on forever.”

In a striking moment during his address, Ayatollah Khamenei also highlighted Iran’s advancements in nuclear technology, proudly announcing the nation’s capability in nuclear fuel production. He reiterated that uranium enrichment remains the cornerstone of Iran’s nuclear program—asserting Iran’s sovereignty over its nuclear path and its right to independent scientific and political development.

The anniversary, which is observed nationwide, has become more than a ritual of remembrance. It serves as a national mirror, reflecting Iran’s historic journey, its achievements under challenging global circumstances, and its ambitions for the future. Citizens and leaders alike used the occasion to meditate on the country’s revolutionary roots, current challenges, and long-term aspirations.

Ambassador Salamu Koroma’s presence at the event signifies Sierra Leone’s continued diplomatic engagement with Iran and reflects a broader solidarity shared among nations.
