2nd August 2026 — Miss Freetown has recorded its biggest-ever audition turnout, with 48 young women applying for the 2026 edition in what organisers say is not only the highest number in the pageant’s 20-year history but also the largest documented application turnout for a pageant audition in Sierra Leone.
The milestone was announced following the successful conclusion of the Official Launch and Auditions for the 14th Edition of Miss Freetown, organised by Miss Freetown SL Limited, a subsidiary of the LAKE Group of Companies, at Kabanna Beach Bar & Restaurant, Lumley Beach.
After a pre-orientation screening process, 20 contestants advanced to the audition stage. Eighteen appeared before a live audience, accredited media, and a panel of five independent judges on Saturday, while two others completed their auditions on Sunday after being granted formal deferrals because of scheduled academic examinations.
Chief Executive Officer of the LAKE Group of Companies, Dr. Alhaji K. Tarawally, said the decision reflected the organisation’s commitment to ensuring that education remains a priority for young women participating in the competition.
«”We made a deliberate decision that no young woman should be forced to choose between her education and her ambition,” he said. “Two of our contestants were sitting examinations on Saturday, so we accommodated them on Sunday under identical conditions and before the same judging panel. Education first is not just a slogan—it is policy.”»
The same panel of judges assessed all 20 contestants using identical scoring criteria to preserve fairness and transparency throughout the selection process.
Only 15 finalists will earn places in the Miss Freetown 2026 competition. Their identities will be unveiled on Friday, 7 August 2026, at 8:00 p.m. (GMT) across the pageant’s official Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok platforms.
The Grand Pageant Night is scheduled for Saturday, 28 November 2026, at Chapter One, Freetown, where the new Miss Freetown will be crowned before an audience expected to include government officials, corporate partners, members of the diplomatic community, and pageant enthusiasts from across Sierra Leone.
Now entering its 14th edition, Miss Freetown has evolved into one of Sierra Leone’s most recognised beauty and leadership platforms. Over the past two decades, several former titleholders have gone on to represent the country at Miss Sierra Leone and on international stages, including Miss World.
Beyond the competition itself, the organisation says its #GirlPowerInitiative has invested in the leadership, education, and personal development of hundreds of young women through mentorship, professional training, financial support, and its signature residential leadership camp.
With unprecedented public interest already recorded before the finalists have even been announced, organisers believe the 2026 edition is on course to become one of the most competitive and widely followed in the history of Sierra Leonean pageantry.
