A stolen AK47 alleged to have been stolen by a prostitute (Raray girl) has been arrested at Ferry Junction checkpoint while police were on duty. The weapon according to information was in the possession of one Ibrahim Badamasi of No. 26 Kissy Bye Pass Road in Freetown. Police at the Ferry Junction Checkpoint were on duty when they suspected an unusual movement and quickly sprang into action leading to the arrest. Ibrahim Badamasi was arrested for unlawful possession of AK-47 rifle including 26 bullets.
The discovery came about when Sub-Inspector Mustapha Sesay, checkpoint commander of Ferry Junction, was on routine security checking on suspicious activities within the Ferry Junction area and it environ. The suspect according to report was trying to conceal a suspicious bag under a parked vehicle.
Acting swiftly, and with the help of his colleagues, a search was conducted on the suspected bag and thereby discovering the firearm and ammunition. The suspect was immediately arrested for unlawful possession and brought to the Ross Road Police Station by the Operations Team for further investigation.
Just after the arrest and inspection of the weapon, the police realize it was the stolen weapon alleged to have been stolen from a police officer by a prostitute.
The strategic placement of the Ferry Junction checkpoint was a foresight move by Local Unit Commander of the Harbour Police Division CSP Fayia David Joshua to ensure security compliance and public safety.
Commending the professionalism and vigilance displayed by the officers, the Regional Commander of Freetown-East, AIG Brima Kanneh, praised the team for their outstanding work and encouraged all police personnel to remain alert and proactive in the performance of their duties. Police Officer Sgt. Major Dumbuya who arrived on the scene quickly enforce order and asked that further search been conducted within the area.
However, the police are yet to disclose from whose police officer the weapon was stolen from and the whereabouts of the prostitute who stole the gun.
