Catholic Priest Urges Faith Leaders To Sound the Peace Alarm

By Mohamed Konneh

The outspoken Catholic Priest who also doubles as the Executive Director for Caritas Freetown, Rev. Fr. Peter Konteh has called on religious leaders to cry for peace. Fr. Peter Konteh was speaking as the war in Middle East and that of Ukraine rages on.

‘’Our world has reached a critical moment. Today, humanity stands at a dangerous crossroads—where war is no longer only killing with bombs and bullets, but is slowly destroying lives through hunger, poverty, and economic hardship,’’ Fr. Konteh said.

The Catholic Priest noted that, if the bombs do not kill, hunger will kill.

‘’If bullets do not destroy, the rising cost of living will destroy families silently. Food prices are rising. Medicine is becoming unaffordable,’’ he said.

Fr. Konteh lamented on fuel cost that is choking our economies and that the poor—especially women and children—are paying the highest price.

‘’As religious leaders, this is not the time for silence.

We cannot preach peace in our temples, churches, and mosques, while the world burns outside. We are called to be the voice of conscience, the cry of the voiceless, and the light in a dark and wounded world.

He said ‘’we must rise together—Christians, Muslims, and all people of faith—to speak with one voice:

STOP WAR.

PROTECT LIFE.

DEFEND HUMAN DIGNITY.
