In a significant step toward expanding access to inclusive and quality healthcare services, the Planned Parenthood Association of Sierra Leone (PPASL) has officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Rainbow Initiative (RI). The signing ceremony took place on 28th July 2025 at Rainbow Initiative’s office, 4 Williams Drive, SS Camp, Freetown. This symbolic event marked the beginning of a promising partnership aimed at enhancing Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) and Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) service delivery for marginalized and vulnerable populations.
Both organizations recognize the widespread impact of SGBV and its serious consequences on the sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) of individuals and communities across Sierra Leone.
The collaboration will focus on ensuring that beneficiaries of both PPASL and Rainbow Initiative have access to comprehensive SRH services, including counseling, STI screening, HIV testing, family planning, and psychosocial support.
During the signing, representatives from both institutions reaffirmed their commitment to joint programming, information sharing, and the establishment of referral pathways that ensure non-discriminatory, confidential, and survivor-centered healthcare access.
This MOU reflects the shared dedication of PPASL and Rainbow Initiative to promoting human rights-based health services and reinforces their mutual goal of leaving no one behind in the fight against SGBV and in advancing access to SRHR.
The partnership is also expected to support the capacity building of service providers and public awareness efforts to reduce stigma related to SGBV and SRHR, particularly among vulnerable groups.
Together, PPASL and Rainbow Initiative envision a society free from SGBV one where survivors receive comprehensive, timely, and compassionate care and support.
