The Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL) has renewed its longstanding collaboration with the National Civil Registration Authority (NCRA) as both institutions step up preparations for the 2028 polls. The commitment was underscored during a courtesy visit by the ECSL leadership to the NCRA Headquarters on King Harman Road, Freetown.
Chief Electoral Commissioner and Chairman Edmond Sylvester Alpha led the ECSL delegation and was received by NCRA Director General Mohamed Mubashir Massaquoi and his management team. The meeting reaffirmed more than 20 years of cooperation between the two bodies, built on trust, professionalism, and a shared vision of strengthening Sierra Leone’s democratic institutions.
Director General Massaquoi hailed the engagement as a “clear demonstration of institutional respect and partnership.” He pledged NCRA’s continued support to the Commission, guided by transparency and internationally recognized standards that safeguard electoral integrity.
He noted that the ECSL–NCRA partnership has been central to maintaining credible elections in Sierra Leone. With evolving challenges and recommendations from international observers, Massaquoi announced plans to review and update the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two institutions. The revised framework, he said, will integrate insights from United Nations-backed missions and other technical assessments to ensure alignment with global best practices.
Commissioner Alpha commended NCRA’s progress in expanding civil registration services nationwide. He stressed that reliable registration data is essential for credible elections, identity management, and public trust in democratic processes. “The Authority’s work in inclusion and identity management is fundamental to the integrity of our electoral system,” Alpha remarked.
Both institutions pledged to deepen cooperation through technical collaboration, joint public education campaigns, and stronger institutional ties.
As Sierra Leone looks ahead to the 2028 elections, the ECSL–NCRA partnership stands as a pillar of progress, ensuring that every eligible citizen is properly registered and empowered to participate in the democratic process.
