In a significant boost to academic resources, the Sierra Leone Book Trust, alongside partners Books For Africa and Book Aid International, donated over 1,000 new textbooks to the Kono University of Science and Technology (KUST) on January 31, 2026. The donation, presented at the Hill Valley Bookstore in Freetown, includes specialized medical and science volumes aimed at enhancing research and student learning. These materials will complement the university’s upcoming e-learning resources in achieving its core objectives in science and technology.

Mr. Sallieu Turay, Executive Director of the Sierra Leone Book Trust, noted that this marks the Trust’s first official donation to KUST. He reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to advancing literacy nationwide and expressed a desire for a sustained partnership with the university.
Professor Tamba Jamiru, Vice Chancellor and Principal of KUST, and the Registrar, Mr. Alpha A. Jalloh, accepted the donation on behalf of the university. The Registrar was instrumental in advocating for the inclusion of specific science, nursing, and medical titles essential to KUST’s expanding curriculum.

“As the newest operational public university in the country, KUST holds immense potential,” stated Professor Jamiru. “While the Government of Sierra Leone continues to provide vital resources, the support of goodwill donors like the Sierra Leone Book Trust is crucial for our strategic development. We assure our partners these books will be used to their fullest potential.”
The donation is expected to directly benefit students and faculty, strengthening the university’s academic foundation.
