A Prayer for Political Tolerance, Understanding, and Healing
Recently, I have been deeply troubled by the growing division and hatred in our society — sometimes even among people who belong to the same political party. What pains me most is not just political disagreement, but how friendships, families, and communities are being torn apart because of political affiliations and power struggles.
Some beautiful friendships — built over 30 years, 20 years, 10 years, even just a few years — are being destroyed by political adventure, intolerance, and rivalry. Social media groups that once promoted unity and dialogue have become silent or hostile. Many people now choose silence, not because they agree, but because they fear offending friends who support a particular government or political party.
This is heartbreaking.
Let us remember: politics should never cost us our humanity.
While leaders argue and parties compete, thousands of innocent people continue to suffer. Sadly, some politicians seem disconnected from the daily struggles of the very people they claim to represent. Thank God, not all leaders are like this — there are still good men and women in public life who genuinely work for the common good. But the damage caused by intolerance and selfish ambition is real.
Today, I invite us all to pray:
Pray for political tolerance.
Pray for understanding.
Pray for our leaders — regardless of party, ideology, or stance.
Pray that power may be guided by conscience, and leadership by service.
Let us choose dialogue over division.
Let us protect friendships over affiliations.
Let us place people above politics.
May God heal our wounded relationships, soften hardened hearts, and help us collaborate for the good of our nation and our communities.
