The Reproductive Health Department of Partners In Health (PIH), in collaboration with mentors from various secondary schools under the Adolescent and Youth Friendly Services (AYFS), came together to commemorate World Menstrual Hygiene Day in Kono District. The event took place at the Filliefaboa Hall, Tankoro.
This year’s theme, “Menstruation is Not a Taboo,” challenges long-standing cultural misconceptions. Historically, menstruation has been stigmatized, but it is in fact a natural and vital part of life for every girl and woman around the world.
The celebration featured a range of talents displayed by pupils in honor of the day. Students expressed their creativity through poems, recitations, presentations, and dramatic performances, all centered on the importance of menstrual health and gender equality.
Stakeholders from various sectors were present to educate both boys and girls on menstrual hygiene management, aiming to break the silence and promote awareness in schools and communities.
The event concluded with an interactive session, where pupils openly shared the challenges they face during menstruation, both in schools and within their communities. Their voices highlighted the urgent need for continued education, support, and access to menstrual hygiene products.
