UN Security Advisor Meets Inspector General of Police

The United Nations Department of Safety and Security’s Security Advisor for Ghana, Liberia, and Sierra Leone, Madam Lihong SHEN, paid a courtesy visit to Sierra Leone’s Inspector General of Police, Mr William Fayia Sellu, at the Senior Police Officers’ Mess at Kingtom Police Barracks.

During the visit, the outgoing Security Adviser and UNDSS Representative, Mr Dumba Jatoe, commended IGP Sellu for the exceptional security support provided during his tenure. Having served in eighteen countries within the UN system, Mr Jatoe expressed his appreciation for the strong collaboration with the Sierra Leone Police, describing it as “overwhelming”. He also conveyed his optimism regarding continued support from the incoming UN Security Advisor, Madam Lihong SHEN.

IGP William Fayia Sellu welcomed Madam SHEN and expressed gratitude to Mr Jatoe for his service. He reaffirmed the Sierra Leone Police’s commitment to maintaining a positive relationship with the UN and ensuring the safety and comfort of UN personnel in the country.

The police chief urged Madam SHEN to consider the Sierra Leone Police’s perspective in her security planning, despite her not being stationed permanently in Sierra Leone. IGP Sellu highlighted ongoing collaborative efforts with the UN Development Programme (UNDP), particularly in reforms aimed at transforming the Sierra Leone Police from a force into a service-oriented institution.

IGP Sellu assured that the Sierra Leone Police would continue to foster a strong partnership with Madam SHEN and the UN, emphasising mutual cooperation for a safer environment.
