Regent Chief Sahr Charles Quee a Model of Leadership in Kamaa Chiefdom

The n Kamaa Chiefdom is experiencing a period of notable stability and development under the disciplined, people-centered leadership of its Regent Chief, Sahr Charles Quee.

Appointed by His Excellency the President following the irreversible illness of Paramount Chief Melvin Ngekia, Chief Quee has embodied the vision laid out by Ambassador Tamba Lamina, Minister of Local Government and Community Affairs, during his orientation in July 2024. At that time, Minister Lamina stressed that leadership must be “guided by law, integrity, and service to the people.” More than a year into his role, Regent Chief Quee is now hailed as an exemplary figure in Sierra Leone’s traditional governance system.

As a custodian of tradition and order, Chief Quee has steadfastly upheld the sanctity of the chieftaincy institution. He has reinforced traditional hierarchies by insisting that all matters proceed through the proper channels of town and section chiefs before reaching his court. “When people jump the line of authority, they weaken the system that has kept our Chiefdom stable for generations,” he stated. This commitment to due process has strengthened sub-chiefs, restored discipline, and ensured the Chiefdom operates in strict accordance with the Chieftaincy Act of 2009.

His leadership is deeply anchored in consultation and dialogue. Believing that genuine progress comes from listening, Chief Quee has instituted monthly Chiefdom Council meetings and quarterly section meetings, improving coordination and feedback across the Chiefdom. His open-door policy has earned him the trust of residents, many of whom now view him as a fair-minded father figure and mediator.

This consultative approach is matched by a drive for development backed by transparency. Chief Quee has revitalized local revenue collection, ensuring that resources are used effectively for community projects. Key among his achievements are the renovation of court barries in several towns and the regular maintenance of key roads. Furthermore, he has reorganized the chieftaincy structure by appointing new Section and Town Chiefs and establishing a functioning Mammie Queen structure to promote women’s participation in community affairs.

Minister Lamina’s initial caution that Regent Chiefs must serve as caretakers, not political actors, has found its expression in Kamaa. Chief Quee’s humility, respect for laws, and dedication to service have made him a benchmark for Regent Chiefs nationwide.

“I am guided by the advice of the Minister and the expectations of government. I will continue to serve with integrity and fairness until the people of Kamaa elect their new Paramount Chief,” Chief Quee assured. Today, Kamaa Chiefdom stands as a symbol of effective traditional leadership. Through his disciplined approach rooted in consultation, accountability, and respect for tradition, Regent Chief Sahr Charles Quee demonstrates that true leadership is not about power, but about service, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to the people.
