TIAMA, MOYAMBA DISTRICT — His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio conducted a working visit to two significant agricultural sites in the Bo and Moyamba districts on Friday, October 10th, 2025, to assess the progress of his government’s flagship Feed Salone initiative.
The President began his tour at his own 1,000-acre cashew farm in the Bo District, a venture he described as a demonstration of leadership by example. The farm is reported to have created employment for 150 Sierra Leoneans. President Bio, embracing the role of a Master Farmer, emphasized that agriculture remains one of the most sustainable methods for empowering communities and strengthening the national economy. He used the opportunity to encourage citizens, particularly the youth, to invest in the sector and take full advantage of the opportunities provided by the Feed Salone programme.

Later, the President joined young farmer Ms. Sherilyn Cowan for a symbolic harvest of her 60-hectare maize farm in Moyamba District. The farm is supported by the African Development Bank (AfDB) funded Sierra Leone Agribusiness Rice Value Chain Support Project, which is implemented through the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (MAFS). President Bio commended Ms. Cowan for her courage and innovation, stating that her work perfectly aligns with the government’s vision for youth-led agribusiness and inclusive national development.

In response, Ms. Cowan thanked the President for his efforts in revitalizing agriculture and creating a pathway for young people to thrive in the sector. Following the main event, officials from the Ministry of Agriculture also visited a Military Farm supported by the Food System Resilience Programme (FSRP) and a Seed Multiplication Site.
The day’s events were attended by senior government officials, local authorities, and community members, all celebrating the growing momentum of the Feed Salone movement toward achieving national food sovereignty and prosperity.
