Following a strong appeal by Health Alert Sierra Leone during on Friday, 8th August 2025, urging Government through the Ministry of Finance to fulfill its obligation to co-financing for immunization, the Ministry has responded swiftly and decisively assuring the public on Government Commitment to financing Immunization.
The Minister of Health Dr. Austin Demby, while briefing the media assured the public that the government remains committed to honouring its financial obligation towards payment of its Co-Financing Obligation for Immunization to UNICEF.
Dr. Demby confirmed that preparations are already underway, and cheques have been signed to meet the co-financing obligation ahead of the 31st August 2025 deadline agreed on by both Government and GAVI.
This prompt response underscores the Ministry’s dedication and commitment to sustaining immunization efforts and safeguarding Public Health and increasing Immunization Coverage in Sierra Leone.
The response by the Minister of Health came in the wake of health advocate outfit, Health Alert calling on the government of Sierra Leone to honour it co-financing obligations.
