The National Telecommunications Authority (NaTCA) and International Telecommunications Union on Tuesday 1st July 2025 hosted a Workshop on Quality of service. The conference brought together various technical experts, mobile network operators from across Africa and beyond to deliberate on this important to improve quality of service for customers. In her keynote statement, the Minister of Communications Technology and Innovation Salima M Bah said this is a landmark workshop and study group on telecommunications services quality and quality of experience.
Saying Sierra Leone is very much happy to host the event in the beautiful city of Freetown.
She then extended her heartfelt appreciation to the International Telecommunications Union, especially the quality of service development group under ITU, the Study Group 12 for choosing Sierra Leone as the venue for this significant event. Revealing that they have so many stakeholders in the room, regarding the advancements of Telecommunications sector. Adding that she is always grateful for an opportunity for the gathering of this nature to address the challenges facing the sector. They are here to chart their pathways and forward. She urged the stakeholders to have a conversation around quality of service not only for Sierra Leone but for the entire union.
Mentioning that she is just from the Internet Governance Forum, where they discussed the role of Telecommunications, national digital development agenda, and how they can move their region as a way forward and what is critical within. She then underscored the importance of aligning, which they have understood that for Africa, we need to leapfrog and catch up with the rest of the world. Also understand the significant role the digital economy plays. This according to her, it can advance national development agenda across all regions. When you think about E-government services, healthcare, agriculture and every single sector right now. Technology can play a significant part in advancing that. She reiterated President Bio vision for digital economy that Africa should move from consuming nation. Emphasizing that we have been consumers for long.
President Bio have made it abundantly clear, no matter those that have left us for this revolution, they do not want left behind. They want to participate and contribute, to compete.
In her statement, the Deputy Director General of NaTCA Mariama Seiwoh Koroma said the work with study 12 is so important toward sustainable development adding that SG 12 provides practical tools to improve service, quality and measures for success.
“This work is driven by strong collaboration among regulators, companies, and academia. The African regional group is one of the ITU’s that is most active.
This meeting will help and let me use this occasion to encourage everyone to make meaningful contributions in addressing the issues.
