Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary School Champions Homegrown Digital Learning Solution

In a significant step toward advancing offline digital education, the Honourable Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, Conrad Sackey, recently hosted the innovative team behind Easy STEM for a detailed presentation at his office. The group, comprised of proud Fourah Bay College graduates, demonstrated their locally engineered, offline-first learning solutions designed for communities with limited electricity and internet access.

The integrated system features durable tablets, portable servers, rechargeable battery packs, and robust offline content platforms. This technology empowers teachers and students to access high-quality educational materials anytime, anywhere, directly addressing the connectivity challenges prevalent in many Sierra Leonean schools. Already deployed across five districts, the solution supports both formal and out-of-school learners.

Minister Sackey engaged with the team on their commitment to practical, community-based innovation. The platform offers a range of interactive lessons in STEM subjects, agriculture, basic computing, and language learning, all tailored to local contexts and needs. Discussions also centered on sustainability, scalability, and potential partnerships with development allies such as UNICEF, ensuring alignment with national education priorities.

The team’s journey—from a college project at Fourah Bay College to a nationally relevant solution—highlights the transformative potential of youth-led innovation when supported effectively. The Ministry is now calling on development partners, the private sector, and philanthropic institutions to support the scaling of this promising initiative to reach more schools and communities across the nation.

Through collaborative partnership and a shared commitment to innovation, the Ministry reaffirms its dedication to accelerating inclusive and equitable access to quality education for all Sierra Leoneans.
