From the Streets to Strength; The Youth Deserve Better!
A bold and compassionate outreach by the Minister of Youth Affairs, Min. Ibrahim Sannoh has brought renewed hope to dozens of vulnerable young people living beneath the Juba Bridge in Freetown. The engagement formed part of the Ministry’s commitment to understanding and addressing the challenges faced by marginalized youth across the country.
Min. Sannoh, accompanied by his Deputy Minister, the Director of Programs, and the Director of Youth in Livelihood Skills, spent hours under the bridge listening to stories of hardship, addiction, and resilience. The Minister encouraged the youth to steer away from drug abuse, assuring them of consistent follow-up and support from the Ministry.
Among those who shared their stories was Rosamond, a young woman with strong reading and writing skills, despite her circumstances. She spoke about her dreams and revealed that she is currently battling a serious eye condition. Deeply moved, Minister Sannoh promised to ensure she receives proper eye treatment and educational support.
Also present was Alie Foster, a youth who lost one leg in a devastating accident and continues to suffer from severe pain in the other. Hon. Sannoh expressed empathy and committed to arranging the medical care Alie desperately needs.
“This is not a show. It’s a responsibility,” the Minister stated. *“Our youth deserve opportunities to heal, grow, and contribute. No one should be left behind.”
The visit, though informal, sent a strong signal of hope and inclusivity. The Ministry aims to reintegrate affected youth into livelihood and rehabilitation programs, providing them with a pathway to recovery and purpose.
Gratitude and hope were evident as the youth embraced the delegation. For many, it was their first time feeling seen and heard by government authorities.
