HEALTHCARE BOOST FOR KOINDU POLICE PERSONNEL

In a significant step towards improving the welfare of police officers, the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has established a new health centre at the Koindu Police Division. The facility aims to provide swift and effective medical care to police personnel and surrounding communities, reinforcing the institution’s commitment to officer well-being and community service.

The initiative aligns with the vision of the Inspector General to enhance infrastructure within the SLP—particularly in divisions beyond regional headquarters towns—as he has encouraged Local Unit Commanders to identify or provide structures that can be transformed into health centres. In line with this directive, the LUC of Koindu Division, Superintendent James Koroma, has fulfilled this mandate. The Koindu health centre will not only serve officers deployed in the area but will also act as a vital resource for handling emergency cases within the local population.

Equipped with essential medical supplies and staffed by qualified health professionals, the facility is designed to support routine check-ups, on-the-spot treatment, and regular clinical outreach to various deployment areas.

Since assuming office, Mr Sellu has prioritised the expansion of medical services to underserved areas, including Mattru Jong in Bonthe District, Lungi, Motema, and now Koindu. These efforts are complemented by significant upgrades to the Kingtom Police Hospital, where all blood tests are now conducted in-house and 95% of mission medical clearances are processed.

This latest development underscores the Inspector General’s strategic commitment to modernizing the Sierra Leone Police and aligning its operations with international standards of health and service delivery.
