Government   and Partners Launched €15m EU-UN Spotlight Initiative

Freetown, New Brookfields Hotel, Wednesday, 8 July 2025– Chief Minister Dr. David Moinina Sengeh has officially launched the EU-UN Spotlight Initiative, reaffirming the Government of Sierra Leone’s commitment to ending violence against women and girls.

The event brought together key development partners, including the UN family, EU representatives, and national institutions such as the Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs, Ministry of Social Welfare, and civil society actors like the Rainbo Initiative.

In his opening remarks , Chief Minister Sengeh described the launch as a significant marker of progress and impact under the leadership of President Julius Maada Bio. “We are not just launching another programme—we are building a country where silence is not an option, and violence is not our culture,” he stated.

He highlighted recent reforms and investments in sexual and reproductive health, education, justice, and infrastructure as tangible proof of government delivery. “Yes, I am a proud feminist. Yes, I am a He For She Champion. And yes, I am radically inclusive,” he said.

He emphasized that this €15 million programme, in partnership with the EU and UN, aligns with the President’s human capital development and gender inclusion priorities, and complements broader efforts such as the recent $180 million water and sanitation project with the World Bank.

“We will deliver because we are already delivering,” the Chief Minister concluded.

Executive Director Mr. Daniel Kettor of Rainbo Initiative said the Spotlight Initiative strengthens Sierra Leone’s fight against gender-based violence. Rainbo will expand survivor support, launch mobile clinics, and train workers.

The global EU-UN program backs Sierra Leone’s reforms and radical inclusion to leave no woman or girl behind.
