Girls Empowerment Network Sierra Leone and Partners Celebrate World Menstrual Hygiene Day in Kono District

In celebration of World Menstrual Hygiene Day, the Girls Empowerment Network Sierra Leone (GENSL), in collaboration with Girl Child Network-Sierra Leone (GCNSL) and in partnership with Irishaid, organized an impactful event in Kono District. The celebration aimed to raise awareness, educate girls and the community on menstrual hygiene management, and promote zero stigma surrounding menstruation.

As part of this event, 100 reusable sanitary pads were donated to 100 girls across Kono District, providing them with a sustainable and dignified solution to manage their menstrual health. The initiative was not only about distribution but also focused on educating girls about proper hygiene, dispelling myths, and empowering them to view menstruation as a natural and proud part of womanhood.

The celebration was highly educative, interactive, and impactful. It created a platform for dialogue among girls, community stakeholders, and health professionals, fostering understanding and support for menstrual health issues. The stakeholders in Kono district expressed sincere appreciation for GCNSL and GENSL’s efforts, acknowledging that this partnership has provided an essential opportunity for girls to manage their menstruation with dignity and confidence.

The event underscored the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing menstrual hygiene challenges and highlighted the need for continued education, support, and resource provision for girls across Sierra Leone. Together, we reaffirm our commitment to empowering girls and breaking down the barriers created by stigma and misinformation surrounding menstruation.
