For Defaming Ruling Party MP… Party Activist on the Run

Unisa Alim Sesay, a member of one of Sierra Leone’s Opposition parties, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), is currently on the run after being accused of defamation relating to election malpractice and violence. The family is worried that harm could befall him. Since the incident of March 2018, his whereabouts have been unknown, and not even family members know his whereabouts.

However, family members are beseeching the relevant authorities that the necessary protection be provided to his nephew for fear of been killed on his returned, since he is been hunted by alleged thugs of the ruling SLPP and police officers who said they have a warrant to arrest him for defaming one Mr. Mohamed Kamara of election malpractice and violence.

Unisa Alim Sesay’s uncle, who begged for his identity and address to be kept secret, said his nephew was a very vocal youth activist but a transparent human being who is now been targeted for standing up for the truth.

Unisa Alim Sesay is now on the run to save his life after first receiving the beat of his life.

Before the March election that saw the then opposition SLPP led by Julius Maada Bio, now president, assume power from the defeated ruling APC party, Unisa Alim Sesay was very vocal and on record to have accused Mr. Mohamed Kamara of election malpractice and violence. This accusation annoyed Mr. Kamara, a member of the SLPP, who later employed thugs to beat up Unisa and also report the young man to the police for defamation.

Unisa Alim Sesay also became a victim of mob justice after he was attacked just before the 2018 election and was accused of defamation.  He was attacked in March of 2018 for allegedly defaming Mr. Kamara of election Malpractice and violence.

Unisa was first invited to the police to give evidence of the accusation of election malpractice and election violence, but failed to do so.

He was later taken to the hospital, where he managed to escape. The whereabouts of Unisa are currently unknown, and not even family members could tell.

The PDP is among the political parties that are still struggling in Sierra Leone. Cases involving their members are most time not treated with the seriousness they deserve.
