Hawa Foray has been overwhelmingly re-elected as the National Women’s Leader of the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) at their national delegates conference. This decisive victory saw Foray, the incumbent, defeating her closest rival, Fatmata Sawaneh, widely known as an alleged arch-enemy of the First Lady of the Republic of Sierra Leone.
Hawa Foray secured an impressive 195 votes. In stark contrast, Sawaneh, a former National Women’s Leader and Deputy Ambassador to Guinea, managed only 73 votes. Alfred Yeama Kassay placed third with 56 votes, and Josephine H. M. Jackson received a mere 3 votes. Five ballots were recorded as void. Foray’s re-election not only solidifies her influential standing within the SLPP’s national executive but also reinforces her role as the party prepares for internal consolidation and broader national engagement, especially given the significant defeat of her prominent rival.
