The 26th Batch of the Chinese Medical Team commenced a two-day intensive on-site First Aid Training Programme for UNICEF Sierra Leone staff on Monday, February 9th, 2026. The training was held at the UNICEF Office on New England Ville in Freetown.
Designed to equip participants with essential emergency response skills, the programme covered critical areas including CPR, trauma first aid, and other lifesaving techniques through a combination of theoretical instruction and practical exercises.
In his statement, Captain Liu Longfei of the 26th Batch Chinese Medical Team expressed his team’s satisfaction in providing the training. “On behalf of the Chinese Medical Team, we are happy to provide this first-aid training to UNICEF Sierra Leone,” he said. He emphasized that the training is part of a shared commitment to protect lives in Sierra Leone and aims to support staff with required skills during emergencies. Captain Liu noted that since 2024, the team has supported several organizations and individuals, including students and those in the mining and medical sectors, in undertaking similar first aid training. He concluded by appreciating UNICEF for the trust and commitment placed in his team.
UNICEF Representative to Sierra Leone, Rudolph Schwenk, welcomed the initiative. He stated he was happy to see the Chinese doctors training his staff on first aid services that would prove valuable during emergencies, whether in the office, in the field, or at home. Mr. Schwenk highlighted the training as part of a longstanding collaboration and acknowledged China’s consistent support to Sierra Leone.
The event underscores the ongoing cooperation between the Chinese Medical Team and international partners in strengthening local capacity and promoting health safety across Sierra Leone.
