As Valentine draws near, I wish to offer a word of guidance to our young people, said Rev, Fr. Peter Konteh, Executive Director of Caritas Freetown.
He said once again, this season often becomes a moment when many teenagers are exposed to immorality and unnecessary pressure.
‘’Yes, Valentine is a time to reflect on love — but love is not limited to romance. True love is shown through care, respect, compassion, and responsibility. This year, let us redefine Valentine. Let us use it as an opportunity to show love to our grandparents, the elderly, widows, orphans, and those who feel forgotten or marginalized,’’ Fr. Konteh said.
He called on young people to invest their energy not in unnecessary spending or risky choices, but in self-development, kindness, and service to others.
‘’Above all, learn to love yourself — your dignity, your future, your purpose. Many young people forget this important truth.
He said as a young person you have to choose values over pressure. Choose growth over pleasure. Choose love that builds, not love that destroys.
‘’May God guide and protect our young people,’’ he concluded.
