The African Affairs Chief noted that the Kingdom of Bahrain is desirous to learn from Sierra Leone’s rich experience in the United Nations Security Council and work with the country to canvass support on the African continent. To achieve this, he stated that the two countries would establish a joint commission to share experience.
In her response, Her Excellency Haja Ishata Thomas highlighted Sierra Leone’s progress on the international stage, referencing its role as Coordinator of the African Union Committee of Ten (10 Heads of State and Government mandated to canvass the African common position in the reform of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
“Our position in the non-permanent category allows for further collaborative efforts with friendly partners to foster international peace and stability, especially in the Middle East. We will convey your message for a reciprocal support,” she mentioned.

Expressing delight in meeting them and thanking them for representing the country positively, she urged the gathering to continue to be law-abiding, adhering to the rules and regulations of Bahrain.
Historically, the Republic of Sierra Leone and the Kingdom of Bahrain have enjoyed mutually beneficial relationship dating as far back in 1971, when Sierra Leone held the Presidency of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) and strongly supported United Nations Security Resolutions for the admission of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). In June 2022, the cooperation was further enhanced when the two countries signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the establishment of Diplomatic Relations.
