Kush has been the most dangerous drug that has damaged and taken the lives of young people in the country and Kenema in particular. This Eastern District headquarter and city is among red zones for Kush and since the transfer of the Assistant Inspector General of Sierra Leone Police, Eastern Region Francis Moses Tower, a number of raid have been conducted leading to the arrest of smokers and dealers.
In a decisive move driven by community-led policing, the Sierra Leone Police in Kenema, headed by AIG Francis Moses Tower, on Wednesday, 6th August 2025 apprehended one Ishmael Kallon of No. 5 Hassan Street, with 25 bundles and 21 sachets of dried leaves suspected to be Kush.
From an operational perspective, the Regional Commander-East, Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Francis Moses Tower, highlighted that during his tenure as the police chief in the region, significant strides have been made in apprehending drug dealers and curbing illicit drug activities. He affirmed that the police will remain relentless until the Eastern Region is declared a crime-free zone.
AIG Tower reassured the public of the police’s unwavering commitment to crime prevention and promised to keep the community promptly informed regarding updates on kush-related arrests.
He reiterated that investigations are in progress as both the suspect and the arrested substances are in Police custody for more investigation.
Sergeant 9441 Ahmid Kamara, head of the Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU) for the Eastern Region, disclosed that the arrest was facilitated by intelligence provided by a patriotic citizen whose identity remains confidential for security reasons. He noted that intelligence-led policing remains a cornerstone of the police’s success in combating drug-related offences.
Speaking to the media, the Assistant Inspector General of Police Eastern Region said that policing in the region is of a different way as the police continue to work with community-led intelligence.
