The Friends of Transit Organization on Friday, 22nd May 2026, presented a cheque of NLe20, 000 to the Love of Christ Foundation Rehabilitation Centre during a ceremony held at the Ministry of Information and Civic Education Conference Room in Freetown. The donation was aimed at supporting the rehabilitation and reintegration of vulnerable youths battling drug addiction and other social challenges.

Speaking during the presentation, members Friends of Transit Organization praised the work of the Love of Christ Foundation, describing the centre as a beacon of hope for vulnerable young people who have been neglected or abandoned by society.
Aruna Patrick Kamara, Head of Sponsored Walk, Friends of Transit Organization said society has a collective responsibility to care for its most vulnerable members rather than marginalise them, noting that sustained support for rehabilitation centres complements government efforts in combating poverty, drug abuse, and social exclusion.

The group also highlighted its ongoing humanitarian work across various institutions, including Blind school, Cheshire home Cline town, and pre and primary school
A total of 95,000NLE was donated by them to these institutions mentioned stressing that despite limited resources, they remain committed to serving those in need.
Mr Tamba Milton Kamanor Vice Chairman of the Friends of Transit Organization emphasised the importance of unity, sacrifice, and collective responsibility in supporting vulnerable communities. He explained that the organization was founded by young people determined to contribute positively to society through humanitarian service. He noted that members contribute personal resources and organise fundraising activities to support people in need, and he encouraged Sierra Leoneans to continue backing humanitarian initiatives, affirming that even small contributions can make a meaningful difference in the lives of struggling young people.
During the event, Chief Thaduba William Alpha Martin II formally presented the cheque of NLe20,000 to the foundation as a symbol of the organization’s commitment to sustaining the rehabilitation programme.
In his response, Alfred Joe Bernet, National Coordinator of the Love of Christ Foundation Rehabilitation Centre, expressed deep gratitude to the Friends of Transit Organization for their generous support and the confidence they have shown in the institution. He explained that the rehabilitation centre, which began operations in 2023, continues to function under difficult conditions, relying largely on volunteer staff and limited resources. He noted that the centre provides feeding, medication, counselling, therapy sessions, and vocational skills training for young people struggling with drug addiction and other social challenges, and that many beneficiaries arrive having already been rejected by their families and communities, making rehabilitation and reintegration particularly difficult.
Mr. Bernet further disclosed that the centre currently accommodates young people between the ages of 10 and 18, and also extends support to disabled and vulnerable persons in surrounding communities through food assistance, clothing, counselling, and small business support. He said the organisation hopes to establish a larger rehabilitation facility in the future but continues to face significant financial constraints, despite having received land for the project. He assured donors that the NLe20, 000 contribution would be applied strictly to its intended purpose, and called for sustained partnerships to help restore hope and dignity to vulnerable young people across Sierra Leone.
