WASH-Net Restores Dignity & Health through Safe Drinking Water in Tonkor Limba

A transformative initiative by WASHNet has brought safe, reliable drinking water to over 800 pupils at two primary schools in the Tonkor Limba Chiefdom, marking the end of a decades-long struggle. Umar Mucthar Islamic Primary School in Madina and Ahmadiyya Muslim Primary School in Rokon previously operated without access to this fundamental resource.

The lack of clean water forced children to leave their classrooms in search of water from unsafe sources, costing them precious learning time and posing severe health risks. Contaminated water led to frequent illness among pupils, creating a persistent barrier to education and causing deep concern for teachers and parents alike regarding children’s health, dignity, and academic success.

Now, that reality has been reversed. Following the installation of sustainable water facilities, classrooms report improved attendance, protected instructional time, and healthier, more confident students. Parents, teachers, community authorities, and school management committees have hailed the intervention as transformational for both educational outcomes and community well-being.

The visible joy on the children’s faces underscores a vital truth: access to safe drinking water is not a luxury, but a cornerstone of quality education, good health, and human dignity. WASHNet remains dedicated to providing sustainable water, sanitation, and hygiene services to schools and communities, affirming that every child deserves a safe and healthy environment in which to learn and thrive.
