SLFA President Presents Champion and  U17 Team to President Bio

In a landmark ceremony at State House on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, the President of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), Mr. Babadi Kamara, presented the nation’s triumphant female football teams to His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio.

The visiting delegation presented the National Senior Female Team, the Sierra Queens, and the National U17 Female Team, along with the gold medals and trophies they secured at the 2025 West Africa Football Union (WAFU) Zone A Tournament. This dual victory marks a historic first for Sierra Leone, as the nation has never before clinched both the senior and U17 championships in a single regional tournament.

Accompanied by SLFA Vice President 1, Mr. Prince Saquee, and executive committee members, President Kamara expressed his honour in presenting the champions to the President. He stated, “This moment is a direct result of your record-breaking support towards the growth of football in Sierra Leone, especially women’s football.” Kamara further credited the President’s leadership for transforming the game into a professional platform that offers a clear career path for the nation’s youth.

In receiving the teams, His Excellency President Bio congratulated the players, coaches, and the SLFA leadership for their outstanding performance and for bringing glory to the nation. He commended their hard work, discipline, and dedication, describing their triumph as a testament to Sierra Leone’s sporting potential and a motivation for the next generation of athletes.

The event was also attended by the Chief Minister, Dr. David Moinina Sengeh, and the Minister of Sports, Madam Augusta James-Teima, alongside other eminent sports figures.

On the sidelines of the celebratory visit, President Bio officially launched the FIFA Football for Schools Project. The launch was symbolized by the distribution of over eight thousand footballs, donated by FIFA, which will be distributed to selected schools across the country. This initiative aims to integrate football into the educational system to promote physical activity, teamwork, and life skills among school-going children.

The event was filled with celebration and national pride, as the champions displayed their trophies. This historic double victory not only cements Sierra Leone’s growing reputation in regional women’s football but also sets a strong foundation for the country’s continued success on the continental stage.
