Hospital Welcomes Largest Cohort of Interns:  Announces International Partnership

In a landmark event for medical training, the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) Hospital has welcomed a cohort of 40 nursing students from Njala University, marking the largest intake of student interns from the institution to date. The ceremony served not only to greet the new trainees but also to showcase the hospital’s recent advancements.

Deputy Medical Director and Medical Superintendent of the SLP Hospital, John Konteh, highlighted the facility’s “tremendous transformation” under the leadership of Inspector General (IG) Fayia Sellu. He pointed to the recent establishment of a dedicated eye clinic as a major achievement of this progress.

Addressing the students, IG Sellu encouraged them to take their training seriously, maintain discipline, and uphold the reputation of their university and their future patients. He credited the wider improvements in Sierra Leone’s healthcare landscape to the leadership of President Julius Maada Bio, noting the President’s strong emphasis on strengthening the national health sector.

In a significant announcement, the IG revealed that the hospital’s enhanced capacity is now attracting international attention. He confirmed plans for a visit by the “Surgeons in Action Foundation” from Spain, who will provide free surgical services at the hospital, underscoring its growing role in meeting both national and international standards
